Close to 1 million people laid off this year. And guess, what? As you may already know, the vast majority of them are college grads. This is the college grad recession. College grads whether you possess a master’s, MBA, PhD did not insulate you from the current layoffs that are ravaging the white collar professions. Maybe you attended and graduated from a high-profile university, believing owning that university sheepskin would guarantee you lifetime employment. Those days are over. Maybe you even took on tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt, believing a name brand university degree would keep you steadily employed. The people responsible for you not having a job or getting laid off is the same university that granted you the advanced degree. Universities or colleges should have full transparency and data about the number of their students full-time employed in their field studies, unemployed, average student loan debt, how many graduates are long term unemployed? Universities can phase out all their do nothing DEI bureaucrats and hire talented people to create a digital dashboard that can display what potential students need to know before they invest 10s of thousands of dollars in a fruitless quest for lifetime employment.
AI is rendering the college degree obsolete and guess what the lowly high school diploma or other certificates that connect to real world jobs will take on more value over a paper college degree of dubious value.
