I hope everyone had an enjoyable pleasant holiday now the lights are put away the tree is being recycled the gifts are forgotten except for that nagging student loan debt. Who can be happy about carrying thousands of dollars in student loan debt that prevent you from achieving the American dream? Wall St Journal just published a story on the student debt anchor I mean the college can check off the box another graduate leaves the campus with diploma in hand ready to meet exciting challenges yet graduating in depressing student loan debt only perpetuates inequality in our country. Like my hero Steve Jobs I did not want my working class parents paying for a degree of dubious value so I attended way, way back my local “FREE” community college transferred to a four year college first a major public university then decided to attend a local university where graduated from in Los Angeles. In 1990 I took out a tiny student loan of $4,300 easy to pay off unlike today where students major in fields that are low paid making it difficult to repay a student loan that is $30, $40 $50,000 or more piling on a mountain of student loan debt. If you want to pursue a liberal arts or creative degree fine just don’t take on debt for your dream. For 2019 look into scholarships, attend a lower cost college, work and pay your tuition without taking on debt. Back in the 1980s when college was affordable I took the cheapest route to obtaining a college degree because I believed in the long run it would not make any difference if you attended a fancy college or like myself graduate from a generic college.

Thank you so much for this information! I usually think about going to college with student debt in mind, no matter how much I try not to think about it. Its usually the thing holding peers back from achieving their goals after school. No matter, to prevent the debt burden I should try to look into low cost colleges based on my own income, thank you so much!
